XPS Polystyrene Board:

Use GreenGuard PB4 Waterproofing Protection Board after applying the waterproofing membrane to exterior foundation walls to prevent damage when backfilling. GreenGuard PB4 Waterproofing Protection Board has high compressive strength and impact resistance to withstand the toughest load pressures and backfilling impact. Available as 1/4" thick, 4' x 50' fanfolded product, GreenGuard PB4 Waterproofing Protection Board is lightweight, easy to transport, and easy to install. Since it is Extruded Polystyrene (XPS) its dense, closed-cell construction provides superior resistance to moisture absorption and decomposition from long-term exposure to chemicals in the soil.

Photo showing aluminium Z-section 20 X 10 X 20 which has been sealed and mechanically fixed 100mm below the top of the blockwork. Wrimco PB4 protection board was first spot torched to the membrane and held in place by the Z-section to provide a high quality, low maintenance finish. The applicator is standing on the 50mm double washed river sand used to protect the 1mm PP filter fabric laid over the 30mm PP drainage cell at the base of the planter.  After rendering down onto the Z-section, the top of the render was waterproofed with Duromastic ACS prior to painting to prevent water bypassing the membrane system and to stop unsightly efflorescence (calcium carbonate formed by water reacting with lime from the render).
