Accessories used in the application of Grace Bituthene
cold applied, self-adhesive sheet membrane, Preprufe blind side sheet membrane and Chemind self-adhesive
sheet membrane waterproofing products. Premium quality products designed to facilitate the installation process and ensure optimum results.
Uses
Designed for specific use in preparation, application and detailing Bituthene and Preprufe membranes in basement tanking, lift pits, podiums, balconies, roof decks, car parks, bridge decks, planters and all landscaped areas, as well as
major civil engineering projects. The products are compatible with most substrates including concrete, block, brick, render, timber, ALC, FC sheet, metal
and plastic.

Products
Bituthene LM (Liquid Membrane)
UV resistant 2 Pk PU mastic for penetrations, outlets, turn-ups perimeters and sealing top edge to retaining walls and planters. Used to seal, detail and patch Grace Preprufe. Suitable as independent waterproof membrane.
Bituthene Mastic Membrane
UV resistant one part PU based compound for complex detailing, penetrations, perimeters and sealing top edge to retaining walls and planters prior to use of Protectoflash or termination bar. It is UV resistant and permanently flexible.
Bituthene Solvent Primer
Fast drying solvent based bitumen primer for all unpainted surfaces. Used for all Bituthene grades
Bituthene Primer Type C
Fast drying water based black bitumen primer and concrete curing compound.
For green concrete, damp or painted surfaces as well as confined spaces.
Surface Primer for Self-Adhesive Membranes
Quick drying, water based pressures sensitive surface primer to promote bond of adhesives, etc. For assistance in correct selection contact Chemind Construction Products Technical Department.
Preparation
Surfaces must be clean, dry and free from dust, loose matter, oil, grease or other contaminants.
Application
Priming
•
Apply one coat of Bituthene Primer at a rate of 5-7 m2/litre and allow to dry.
•
Use Bituthene Primer Type C water based, on damp surfaces or “green” concrete.
•
Surface Primer is applied to Chemind Tile-It or Sound-Kontrol Membrane for direct fixing of tiles or used on substrates where a clear primer is desirable.
Generally
Bituthene LM or Mastic Membrane may be used to detail
Roofing
or
Tanking
, but it must be applied
BEFORE
Primer or Bituthene Membrane.
Tanking - Basements, Pits, Planters
Bituthene LM or Chemflex LM may be used to form fillets, seal cuts or patches and seal membrane to footings or top edge of vertical membrane to wall. Cover with Chemind Protectoboard or Rapid Drain. Use Chemind Protectoflash fixing strip to seal top edge and secure Chemind Protectoboard or FC sheet.
Roofs, Decks, Podiums
Application to Outlets and Penetrations
•
Apply Bituthene LM or Mastic Membrane 50mm onto fixture and substrate by brush or trowel to 1.5mm DFT.
•
After installing Bituthene, apply a further 1.5mm DFT overlapping 50mm onto fixture and membrane.
Perimeter Detail and Turn-Ups
•
After laying Bituthene, Preprufe or Chemind membrane, apply a full brush coating along edge of the sheet membrane overlapping 50mm onto applied
detail and sheet membrane.
Sundry Applications
•
Bituthene LM or Mastic Membrane may be used as a “stand alone” waterproof barrier.
Surfacing
Exposed turn-ups and perimeters formed in Bituthene LM Liquid Membrane or Mastic Membrane are UV resistant, but can be covered after full cure.

Decorative Finishes
Use Chemind Epocote F100W grey to seal surface. Apply Chemind Blockflex high build coating, any exterior grade acrylic paints or roll-on textures.

Render
Use Chemind Chembond polymer modified render as directed.
•
Tiles or Paving
To specified products apply Surface Primer and direct fix with Chem-Fix Super adhesive.
NOTE
Use protective clothing, gloves and glasses. If using solvent based products in areas with limited ventilation, wear an appropriate respirator.
Coverage
•
Mastic Allow 1 litre/10m² membrane (generally 1litre or 1.4kg will yield 1.0mm DFT/m²)
•
Primers Allow 5 - 8 m2/litre (coverage is dependant on substrate)
Clean-up
Remove uncured water based primers with clean water. Chemind GP Solvent may assist removal of cured product. Remove uncured solvent-based product with the solvent as shown in table. Exercise care when using solvents. Please review all MSDS and use any nominated PPE as may be required.
Shelf Life
Stored in a cool, dry place, unopened pails or solvent and water based products have a shelf life of 2 years. Polyurethane based products once opened may become solid within a few days.
