External Internal Liquid membrane:

DUROMASTIC ACS-2:  CLASS II for Showers, Decks and Balconies

CLASS II for Showers, Decks, Roofs and Balconies DUROMASTIC ACS-2 is a two  part liquid / cement copolymer membrane with fibrous reinforcement. DUROMASTIC ACS-2 cures rapidly to form a flexible waterproof lining for showers and other wet areas as described in Australian Standard AS3740:2004 "Waterproofing wet areas within residential buildings" & complies to S4858:2004 "Wet Area Membranes"

DUROMASTIC ACS-2 forms a waterproof lining to most building materials including reinforced concrete, cement   render, water resistant plaster board, and fibre reinforced cement sheet flooring, etc. The surface must be firmly fixed to manufacturers directions, and must be clean and dry. DUROMASTIC ACS-2 is suitable for external use on light pedestrian trafficable decks, parapets and flashings. Top coat with Duro Mastic SR for UV resistance.

Waterproofing Wet Areas with DUROMASTIC ACS-2

APPLICATION

Step 1:

Remove all dirt, dust, plaster and cement droppings, protrusions, oil and contaminants. Fill screw holes and any voids with neutral cure silicone

Step 2:

Apply neutral cure silicone sealant* to all horizontal joints within the area to be waterproofed. To all wall/floor and wall/wall junctions, apply approx 12mm bead of neutral cure silicone as a bond breaker. Apply sealant around floor penetrations, tap fittings and other discontinuities. Floor wastes in concrete shall be cut level with the floor. For sheet flooring, leak control flanges shall be recessed and fully sealed.

Step 3:

Prime internal surfaces with DUROSEAL AR or DUROPRIME ARW Primer. External surfaces shall be primed with DUROPRIME WBE. Allow to dry. All PVC to be etch primed.

Step 4:

Cracks. Non-movement and hairline cracks may be filled with a brush coat of DUROMASTIC ACS-2. Movement cracks shall be routed out, cleaned and filled with silicone sealant. Apply a polyester reinforcing bandage embedded in DUROMASTIC ACS-2 and allow to dry.

Step 5:

Sheet flooring joints. Apply a 200mm wide reinforced bandage of polyester fibre in DUROMASTIC ACS-2 and allow to dry. Ensure joint movement is not beyond the elastic limited of the membrane.

Step 6.

Mixing. Stir powder component into half the liquid until smooth, stand 5 minutes, re-stir and add the balance of the liquid. DO NOT add water to mixture before or during use. Apply two or more coats of DUROMASTIC ACS-2 to the floor and coved areas to ensure a minimum dry film thickness of 1.2mm. Apply one or two coats to wall areas above the shower tray to a dry film thickness of 0.5mm. Use brush or short nap roller for walls. Ensure the membrane is turned down into the floor waste or well sealed around the leak control flange and other penetrations. Ensure flashing angles are properly sealed across doorways. Check for pinholes, misses or cracks in the membrane when dry and rectify.

* PU sealant may be used in place of silicone provided it is fully cured prior to membrane application.

TILING

Cured DUROMASTIC ACS-2 may be tiled over using Durohesive range of tile adhesives.

PRECAUTIONS

Do not apply above 35C or below 6C. Areas subject to rising damp or back pressure should be first sealed with an epoxy coating such as DUROPOXY WBE (Water Based Epoxy). Cold damp conditions retard cure, allow plenty of air flow to aid drying. Do not apply excessive thickness to internal corners or shrinkage cracking may occur. Make sure that the membrane is fully dry before tiling over, normally 1-3 days. Protect membrane against damage before and during tiling very important on timber floors. Do not apply more than 1.2mm DFT per coat or reduced flexibility will occur.

DUROMASTIC ACS-2 is suitable for tiling over. Use standard cement or water based tile adhesive. Do not use solvent based adhesive/sealers. When tiling externally provide a slip sheet between the membrane and the tile bed and allow sufficient expansion and contraction control joints in overlaying tiles and topping, otherwise the membrane will be damaged.

Respiratory Protection

If vapours and mists occur, a respiratory protection program meeting Australian Standards AS- 1716 and AS-1715 requirements must be followed whenever workplace conditions warrant a respirator's use. None required if airborne concentrations are maintained below the exposure limit listed in "Exposure Limit Information"

Eye Protection

Use chemical splash goggles (Australian Standard AS-1337) or approved equivalent. Eye protection worn must be compatible with respiratory protection system employed. An eye wash station and safety shower should be available in the work area.

Hand Protection

Impermeable gloves as necessary to prevent skin contact. E.g. Nitrile or neoprene gloves.

Protective Clothing

Clothing made of the following material has excellent resistance : Tyvec, butyl Nitrile rubber or neoprene.
